BMW has a comfort access system that allows you to open the car door and start the engine without having to touch the key. All you have to do is have the key somewhere on you (or near you.) The unique sensors in it are connected to the sensors in the car’s computer system, so only your car key will be recognized. Once you approach the car just touch the inside of the door handle, and then head on in. Find out more about what else this system can do, and the technology behind it.
Approaching the Car
Once the key is within about 5 feet of the car, the system automatically senses it’s within range. Your car will verify the key, so you just have to touch the door handle to unlock it. It’s the perfect solution for a day of running errands where you just want to be able to come and go as quickly and efficiently as possible. It also gives you an alert if you left your keys behind, so you don’t have to spend 10 minutes searching your purse for something that isn’t there.
Start and Drive
BMW Comfort Access makes it possible to drive away without having to find your keys because the car is either engaged or disengaged based on the mere presence of the key. Once you’re settled into the driver’s seat, just use the Push button to start and stop the engine. The Comfort Access system also customizes your drive. The key is outfitted to store up to 11 different features, such as your seat settings, mirror configurations, and the steering wheel position. All you have to do is get into the car to trigger the pre-programmed settings. It makes using a valet service easier as you can give the driver the valet key, and they can make their own adjustments once they’re inside. Once they’re done though, you’ll never have to fuss to get the mirrors back to the right position again.
Leaving Your Car
Whether you just needed to grab something out of the car or you’re reached your final destination, lock the doors without the keys by pressing the door handle’s exterior button. Open and close the trunk of the car by using the contactless function. All you need to do is swipe your foot briefly under the back bumper to activate a signal on the BMW’s onboard computer. The trunk opens up fully, so you can put all your gear in it even when your hands are completely full. Should the vehicle ever fail to recognize your car key, you can still use the remote control functions the conventional way.
BMW comfort access system is just one component of the convenience offered in these luxury cars. Complete your comfort with other features, like the My BMW Remote iPhone app that can do things like control the climate of your car on particularly hot or cold days or help you find it in a crowded parking lot.
